Creating your first internal link
Step 1: Add new link
To create an internal link, login to your WordPress backend, navigate to the internal links manager plugin on the left sidebar and click “Add New Link”.
Step 2: Filling out mandatory fields
Now you need to fill out all the mandatory fields. Firstly set an internal title for your link. This is just for your internal structure.
Next, select the page (link destination) you would like to link to. If you click “use custom url” you can also simply insert any page url you like.
In the next section “keywords” you can enter all the terms you want to be linked. You can either enter single words or even phrases, just separate them by pressing enter or tab after each keyword/phrase.
Step 3: Optional settings
You can also decide whether or not your keywords should be case sensitive by ticking the corresponding box. Those are all the mandatory information. The rest is optional.
Within those optional settings you can assign a priority to your link. The higher the value, the ealier the keywords of the entry will be replaced. If the priority of two entries is equal, the longer one wins. You can also set your own desired link title for the HTML attribute. If you decide to leave this field empty, the internal title will be used. So we highly recommend to either come up with an adequate naming strategy for your internal titles, or to always set up proper link titles.
You can also set how often the link should appear. Choose -1 for unlimited links.
Lastly you have the options to let search engines follow your link, to set the link target as well as to allow for partial replacement of words. E.g: One of your keywords is “success”. If you activate this setting, “success” is linked whenever the word successful appears on your site.
Thats it! You´ve created your first internal link. Congratulations!
