Google describes it as the product of two things: the <em>crawl capacity<\/em> your server can handle without slowing down, and the <em>crawl demand<\/em> your content justifies.<\/p><p>Below a few thousand pages it is rarely a real constraint. A site with a few hundred pages that publishes weekly is not competing for crawler attention in any meaningful sense. If such a site has pages that are not indexed, the cause is almost always something else: nothing links to them, they duplicate another page, or they are not worth indexing.<\/p><p>Crawl budget becomes a genuine constraint on large sites \u2014 shops with faceted navigation generating thousands of parameter URLs, publishers with deep archives, sites with slow servers that force the crawler to back off.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-t1000014 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"t1000014\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Where it actually gets wasted<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-t1000015 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"t1000015\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li><strong>Faceted navigation.<\/strong> Every combination of filters is a URL. Colour times size times price band is thousands of near-identical pages.<\/li><li><strong>Session and tracking parameters.<\/strong> The same page fetched a dozen times under different query strings.<\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/internal-links-manager.com\/pt\/glossario\/redirect-chain\/\">Redirect chains<\/a>.<\/strong> Each hop is a request that returns no content.<\/li><li><strong>Soft 404s and thin archives.<\/strong> Empty tag pages, date archives nobody reads.<\/li><li><strong>Infinite calendars.<\/strong> A booking widget that generates a URL for every future month, forever.<\/li><\/ul><p>The common thread: the crawler spends its visit on URLs nobody wants indexed, and the pages that matter are checked less often as a result.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-t1000016 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"t1000016\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What internal linking has to do with it<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-t1000017 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"t1000017\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Crawl demand is partly a function of how important a page looks, and internal links are the main signal of importance a site controls. Pages with many inbound internal links and low <a href=\"https:\/\/internal-links-manager.com\/pt\/glossario\/profundidade-de-cliques\/\">profundidade de cliques<\/a> get fetched more often; changes to them are noticed sooner.<\/p><p>So the practical advice is the same advice as everywhere else on this site: <a href=\"https:\/\/internal-links-manager.com\/pt\/o-que-fazer-com-o-linkbuilding\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"146\" title=\"Links internos vs. backlinks\">liga\u00e7\u00e3o<\/a> the pages that matter, from pages that themselves get linked. What it is <em>not<\/em>: adding <a href=\"https:\/\/internal-links-manager.com\/pt\/glossario\/nofollow\/\">nofollow<\/a> to internal links to steer the crawler. That does not conserve budget \u2014 use <code>robots.txt<\/code> for URLs that should never be fetched, and remove links to URLs that should not exist.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-t1000018 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"t1000018\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How to see your own<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-t1000019 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"t1000019\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Search Console has a Crawl Stats report under Settings: requests per day, average response time, and a breakdown by file type and purpose. If total requests are flat while the site grows, or average response time is climbing, that is worth reading. Google raises it while the server responds quickly and lowers it when responses slow down or errors appear. A site returning 500s under load is teaching the crawler to visit less often, which is the one crawl budget problem that is genuinely a server problem.<\/p><p><strong>Crawl demand<\/strong> is editorial. It rises with popularity, with how often content actually changes, and with how important a URL looks from its links. Republishing an unchanged page with a new date does not create demand; it teaches the crawler that dates on your site mean nothing.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7689194 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"7689194\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Symptoms worth acting on<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-578ee94 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"578ee94\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li><strong>New pages take weeks to appear.<\/strong> On a small site this is a linking problem, not a budget problem \u2014 check whether anything links to them.<\/li><li><strong>Changes to existing pages are noticed late.<\/strong> Look at where those pages sit in the link graph.<\/li><li><strong>Search Console shows many URLs as <em>Discovered \u2013 currently not indexed<\/em>.<\/strong> Google knows the URLs exist and has chosen not to fetch them. On a large site this is the clearest crawl-budget signal there is.<\/li><li><strong>Crawl Stats shows requests flat while the site grows.<\/strong> Worth reading alongside average response time.<\/li><\/ul><p>Absent these, effort spent on crawl budget is effort not spent on something that would move the numbers.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-11f9210 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"11f9210\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The order of operations<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c683586 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c683586\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Where it does bind, the sequence matters because each step reduces the work of the next.<\/p><p><strong>First, stop generating junk URLs.<\/strong> Faceted navigation and tracking parameters produce more waste than everything else combined.
