A <strong>internal link<\/strong> is a link from one of your pages to another of your pages. Same HTML element, entirely different economics.<\/p><p>Search engines have treated links as votes since 1998. The original insight was simple: if many pages link to a document, that document is probably worth something, and a link from an important page counts for more than a link from an obscure one. That logic never distinguished sharply between links that cross a domain boundary and links that do not. Both move standing around. You write something worth citing, you pitch it, you wait, and most of the time nothing happens. The good ones cannot be bought without risk, the cheap ones are worthless or actively harmful, and even a successful campaign gives you no control over the anchor text, the surrounding context, or whether the link survives the next redesign.<\/p><p>An internal link requires none of that. You decide that this paragraph should point at that page, you write the anchor text yourself, and it is live. No outreach, no budget, no negotiation. You also control how many there are, where they sit on the page, and what they say \u2014 and you can change any of it in an afternoon.<\/p><p>That asymmetry is the whole argument. Internal linking is not better than backlinks. Backlinks set the size of the pot. Internal links decide who gets served. Internal linking works on the pages you already have. It takes an existing library and rearranges how standing flows through it. The effect shows up within a crawl cycle or two, and it costs one person one afternoon.<\/p><p>Backlink acquisition works on pages that are worth citing. If your best guide is orphaned, buried, or described by an anchor that says <em>\u0914\u0930 \u092a\u0922\u093c\u0947\u0902<\/em>, no amount of outreach fixes that \u2014 you are asking strangers to vouch for something your own site does not vouch for.<\/p><p>There is also a practical argument. Backlinks arrive at whatever page the linker chose, usually the homepage. Internal links are what carry that value onward to the pages that convert. More importantly, a reader who sees eighty links follows none of them. Adding <code>nofollow<\/code> to an internal link does not redirect its share to the other links on the page \u2014 that share is simply discarded. Whatever standing that link carries stops there unless something moves it. If that page links onward to the three guides you actually want ranking, the benefit spreads. If it links nowhere in particular, the benefit sits in one place doing very little.<\/p><p>So the two disciplines have a natural division of labour. Outreach decides how much you have. Internal linking decides what it does.
